Senior Back End Engineer @ Editorial Area (INK)

Antwerp - As a Senior Back End Engineer you will join the Editorial Area in a team (Ink Squad) responsible for various editorial systems. These systems are used by our newsrooms in Belgium and the Netherlands to produce our newspapers and magazines.

The focus of INK Squad is mainly on pré- and post print production systems for all our Print News & Magazines Brands. Their technology stack consists of the JVM, Typescript and AWS Cloud (serverless). Depending on the requirements we believe you should use the right tool for the job.

For us it is crucial that all team members are multi-skilled. So even the most seasoned backend engineers give love to the frontend or cloud infrastructure and vice versa from time to time.

You will work with a small team that is experienced with remote pair programming and has a high “Can Do!”-mentality, no silo’s to be found in this team.

Who are we?

On a daily basis hundreds of journalists of our major brands publish thousands of articles on our products such as Algemeen Dagblad, Het Laatste Nieuws, de Volkskrant, etc...

In order to print an article, it has to go through various phases and services / applications. Implementing, extending and maintaining this “complex” ecosystem with a variety of off-the-shelf and homebrew software is our bread and butter.

The result of this effort can be admired on a daily basis in all our newspapers and magazines in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Your key strengths?

• Back End stack(s): Microservices, Spring Boot, REST/Event based integrations, AWS SDK

• Cloud Stack: AWS Lambda, ECS, SNS/SQS, API Gateway and S3

• Front End stack(s) : Javascript, React, Jest...
  Nice to have: Typescript, Kotlin

• CI/CD knowledge: Infra-as-code, Gradle, Docker, CodePipeline, CodeBuild, Cloudformation

• Beyond that, DDD, the SOLID principles and Clean Code hold no secrets for you... TDD/BDD are second nature to you and you’ve at least heard of Hexagonal Architecture.

• Agile mindset and relevant experience with Scrum or other agile methodologies

• Curious and open-minded.
